Statement
My work investigates and interrogates whiteness, white supremacy, and identity through the lens of personal and American histories. I make drawings and readymades, oftentimes with materials that reinforce ideas of temporariness. The materials and processes serve as metaphors that expand upon existing themes, and build in additional layers of meaning. At the heart of my practice, I make sense of the ways that whiteness and white supremacy has harmed white people over the course of centuries, both individually and collectively. When I am able to understand how these systems function, I am better able to take them apart, internally and externally. The work is an invitation for audiences to reflect upon their relationship to and within these systems; and to consider how whiteness psychologies play out in our lives in unseen ways. Hidden clues reveal ways (paths) to break free from those invisible cages.
